The Memory & Storage Architecture Lab (MSAL, also known as the Archi Lab) was established in 1979 as a research unit of the Computer Engineering Department at Seoul National University. Over the past three decades, MSAL researchers have made pioneering contributions in the areas of embedded systems, real-time systems, computer performance evaluation, and storage systems.
We endeavor to pursue beauty and completeness in the architectural design and implementation. We are interested in predicting the future from the past with applications in computer architecture (storage system and cache memory), biological architecture (epigenomics), and financial technology (futures market prediction). Currently the Lab serves as the focal point for research on the theory, design, and implementation of flash memory-based storage systems.
